*** March 2007 ***

Dear Boarders & Future Horse Owners,

February was another cold month and the weather predictions seem to indicate that we still have quite a bit more rain for March...so we are really looking forward to April!

We want to thank Sabine and Shelly and Elizabeth for all helping out while Mariam was in the hospital. It is very nice to have such a great Family of boarders who we can turn to for help when we are in need...and you did a great job!

We finally got our lunging arena done and we hope you are all enjoying it! We also replaced some of our old furniture and hopefully  this stuff will make it through all of our tuff weather a little better.  We do ask that you please not move the new furniture as we have placed it where it works best for the guest as well as our mowing and grooming of the areas.  We will be getting several more pieces of furniture as well over the next month or two so there is room for everyone to sit and relax. Our next big project will probably be the bleachers so we will update you as we get close to replacing those.

Thank you to all the ladies who made it to our “Ladies Bunko”! It was so much fun and I think everyone had a good time.  We will be having another one of these in a few months when the weather warms up and I will give a little more notice so hopefully everyone can come!

Our family will be out of town for one week in April.  Mariam’s step-father passed away 2 days before her surgery so they are having a memorial for him when she is up and around and able to attend.  We believe that Elizabeth, who usually cares for things when we are gone will be here, but we will update you when we know for sure.

Please be sure to read the back as there is a LOT of information this month and we have a new website so please check that out!  www.trotterfamilyranch.org

Sincerely,

Scott and Mariam Trotter

Preparing For Foals

Because so many of our boarders are new since having had foals born here, we just wanted to go over some important things everyone needs to know.  When a mare actually goes into labor and foaling is expected within a day or two, we ask that everyone please refrain from standing or hanging around the stall area.  We realize if you clean your own stall, you will be walking by there, which is fine, just don’t stop and linger at the stall.  We will have our foal cams on in time for you to watch the birth from home, but please do not come down to watch the birth in person.  When our very first foal was born here, a lot of people saw that she was going to foal and came down to watch and the mare got so nervous, she did not bond right away with the baby nor want to nurse it.  It is just very important that it be very quiet and calm with just the needed people here to help if she needs help.  When the cams are up, you will see that there are two different cameras from two angles so you will really see things well.  After the foal is born and nursing, about 24-48 hours later, you are welcome to go visit the mare and foal as much as you want.

  Don’t Forget!

Our Spring Shot Clinic will be on Tuesday April 10th at 1pm.  We will have a sign-up sheet up in the next month so don’t forget to sign up.

Welcome To Our New Boarders:

** The Belsher Family recently purchased “Pete”. He is a big beautiful bay thoroughbred. You can see Pete in the Schooling Barn

  Announcement

Sadly, our trainer Michelle Reeser, has given her notice that she will be leaving us.  We are very sorry to lose her but understand the issue of commuting as far as she does has become difficult.  We have several applicants who we will be interviewing over the next few weeks and are sure that we will find someone who will fit our little ranch well.      Lessons will continue for another week with Michelle, then there may be a short break until we bring someone  new on.

Farrier Corner

For those of you who use Jim Schlicher, his schedule for the year is as follows.

He will be here every 4 weeks on Tuesdays and his next day here will be on March 28. If you need to reach him for anything, you can contact him or his wife Patsy at
